Ronny Dietz (born August 18, 1978 ) is a former German triathlete . He is Vice-European Cross Triathlon Champion (2006, 2011) and five-time German Cross Triathlon Champion (2001–2003, 2008, 2011).

Career

Ronny Dietz started his sporting activities at AG Adelsberg at the age of six. He was able to achieve his first successes in cross-country skiing and in various cross-country runs. Among other things, he became district champion in cross-country skiing in the Karl-Marx-Stadt district of the former GDR and multiple city district champion in cross-country skiing. Even before the "turnaround" in 1989 he was spotted for the athletics training center and in 1991 switched to the Chemnitz sports school. He graduated from high school in 1997 at what would later become a sports high school in Chemnitz . Inspired by his four years older brother, he tried his first duathlon in 1993. Just one year later he was appointed to the youth class of German champions in St. Wendel and in 1995 to the national team. In the following years he competed regularly in international duathlon championships. The best result was a sixth place at the Junior World Championships 1997 in Gernika, Spain.

In 1994 he completed his first triathlon in Leipzig on Lake Kulkwitzer (in the meantime he is the record winner with five titles in the oldest East German triathlon). In the triathlon, the success came a little later, as he only started swimming at that time. He was several times Saxony champion, winner of the Saxony ranking list for SG Adelsbergund. Dietz started in the 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga for his home club and later for SV Halle in the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga (team with Falk Cierpinski and Andreas Raelert ) over the Olympic distance.

In 2001 he tried his first cross-triathlon (1.5 km swimming, 30 km mountain bike and 10 km cross-country run) at the German championships in Immenstadt, Bavaria, and immediately took second place in the elite class. From then on, his career began in cross-triathlon and Xterra (Xterra is the international name for competitions in cross-striathlon and various other outdoor cross-competitions).

In the cross-triathlon, in addition to multiple podium places, he was German champion four times (2002, 2003, 2008, 2011) and Xterra vice-European champion in 2006 and 2011 .

At the Xterra World Championships in Maui / Hawaii in 2011 he achieved his best result with seventh place. Over the Olympic distance in street triathlon, he was three times German university champion. He was looked after by his trainer Heiko Schinkitz and his swimming trainer Martin Schwarze . In 2010 he finished his studies in business administration at the TU Chemnitz .

In February 2012 he declared his career as a competitive athlete over. Ronny Dietz lives in Chemnitz with his wife and a daughter .
