Falk Cierpinski (born May 17, 1978 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German long-distance runner who was also active in duathlon and triathlon .

Life

Falk Cierpinski is the son of the two-time Olympic marathon winner Waldemar Cierpinski and the 800-meter runner Maritta Politz , who took part in the 1972 Olympic Games for the GDR. Until 2006 he was a triathlete in the Bundesliga team of SV Halle and a member of the German national duathlon team.

In 2005 he became German champion in duathlon (running, cycling, running). In 2006 he finished third at the Triathlon European Cup in Portorož . In 2007 he was the winner of the Munich Triathlon (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling, 10 km running: 1:58:58 h). Cierpinski was last active as a triathlete at the 19th Halle Triathlon on June 17, 2007 and achieved second place behind Christian Ritter .

In 2004 he set a state record for Saxony-Anhalt over 10 km in 29:50 minutes, which he improved to 29:48 minutes on March 22, 2008 at the Paderborn Easter run . In September 2006 he ran his first marathon in Sydney in 2:24:27 h and switched to this discipline. In 2007 he finished 23rd as the best German in the Berlin Marathon in 2:19:06 h; two weeks later he won the Munich Marathon , where he secured a special bonus (Munich Hero) for a combined time under 4:30 h (exact time: 4:24:22 h) from the marathon and triathlon. At the German championships in road running over 10 km, he won the championship title on September 13, 2008 in Karlsruhe in 29:14 minutes with a 4-second lead and thus again improved his own best performance and the Saxony-Anhalt record over this distance within six months .

At the Hamburg Marathon 2008 with 2:15:48 h, he finished as the best German in 22nd place. He missed his goal of taking part in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Beijing , for which he should have achieved a time of 2:13 hours according to the norm of the German Athletics Association . At the Berlin Marathon in September 2008, he ran a new personal best of 2:13:30 h and finished ninth as the best European. With this marathon time in Berlin, Falk Cierpinski also led the DLV annual best list of 2008. In 2009, with a time of 2:17 h at the Düsseldorf Marathon , he again missed the standard of the German Athletics Association, but was still nominated for the World Championships in Berlin . Plagued by a stitch in his side , he finished 49th in his first major international marathon event with a time of 2:22:36 h.

In 2010 Cierpinski qualified for the European Championships in Barcelona , but had to cancel a few days in advance due to an injury. He did not qualify for the marathon of the Olympic Games in London because he had to give up in the qualifying races ( Berlin Marathon 2011 and Hamburg Marathon 2012). On September 1, 2013, he won over the half marathon distance at the Central German Marathon in his hometown Halle (Saale) and thus increased his half marathon best time to 1:05:18 h. On September 29, 2013, Cierpinski finished the Berlin Marathon in a time of 2:14:50 h, a year later he was 19th and best German runner with 2:17:25 h.

Since 2006 he has been a member of SG Spergau. With a height of 1.81 m, he has a competition weight of 70 kg.
