Nani (born November 17, 1986 in Amadora ; real name Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha ) is a Portuguese - Cape Verdean football player who is under contract with Orlando City . He won the European Championship in France with Portugal in 2016 , where he scored three goals.

Origin and childhood

Nani was born in Amadora , Portugal, as an immigrant from Cape Verde. The mother soon moved on to the Netherlands in search of better living conditions, while Nani and a brother grew up in poor circumstances under the care of his aunt in the socially deprived district of Santa Filomena in the city of Amadora in the east of the greater Lisbon area . At the age of 18, he was granted Portuguese citizenship.

At the age of 16 he started at his first club, Real Sport Clube in Massamá , from where he moved to the youth department of the Portuguese capital club Sporting Lisbon , which gave him his first professional contract in 2005. For the 2005/06 season he made his debut in the SuperLiga . In his first professional season, the offensive player made 29 appearances, with his first four goals for Sporting. In the following year he was able to achieve his first success with the green-whites . In the final of the Taça de Portugal , Nani's team beat Belenenses Lisbon 1-0 .

For the 2007/08 season, the 1.76 m tall right-footed player moved from Sporting Lisbon, where he actually still had a contract until 2009, to the Premier League winners Manchester United . There the young professional received a contract until 2012. His new employer paid around € 20 million for the change, although the exact transfer fee is not known. At the beginning of his time in Manchester he lived with his national team and new teammate Cristiano Ronaldo . On August 12, 2007 he made his Premier League debut against Reading FC when he came on for Wayne Rooney in the second half . A week earlier he was able to celebrate his first title with the Red Devils with Manchester United against Chelsea in the Community Shield . After a 1-1 draw, the team won 3-0 on penalties. In his first season at Manchester United, he won both the Champions League and the Premier League . The Premier League win was repeated in the following season.

In the 2009/10 season he was able to fight for a regular place at Manchester United and extended his contract to 2014. He scored a total of four goals, his best annual result in the club's dress, and he was the club's best assistants. When winning the English Supercup on August 7, 2011, Nani contributed two goals to the 3-2 win of his team against city rivals Manchester City .

After more successful seasons, Nani extended his contract with Manchester United until 2018.

In August 2014, after having played for United on Matchday 1, Nani returned to Sporting Lisbon on loan until the end of the season. In return, Marcos Rojo moved to Manchester for 20 million euros. At the end of the season he won the Portuguese Cup with the club.

For the 2015/16 season , Nani did not return to Manchester United, but moved to the Turkish first division club Fenerbahçe Istanbul .

For the season 2016/17 Nani moved to the Spanish La Liga for Valencia . He received a three-year contract dated June 30, 2019. He came to 26 league appearances in which he scored five goals.

On August 31, 2017, Nani moved to the Italian Serie A at Lazio Rome on loan until the end of the 2017/18 season . For Lazio he played 18 times in the series and scored three goals.

For the 2018/19 season , Nani did not return to Valencia, but to Sporting Lisbon for the second time . In 18 league games he scored seven goals.

On February 18, 2019 Nani moved to the US MLS - franchise Orlando City , where he signed a contract as a Designated Player received by 31 December 2021st By the end of the 2019 regular season , Nani had scored 12 goals in 30 appearances.
