The 2009/10 League Cup was the 50th edition of The Carling Cup , or League Cup . The tournament started with 92 clubs.
The competition started on August 10, 2009 with the first round and ended with the final at Wembley Stadium in London on February 28, 2010. The winner of the competition was Manchester United .
First round
The draw for the first round took place on June 16, 2009. The Newcastle United and Middlesbrough FC were the only teams from the Football League that went until the second round of the tournament, as they were the top two teams last season. The other 70 teams in the Football League had to compete in the first round.
