The 2005/06 League Cup was the 46th edition of The Carling Cup , or League Cup . The tournament started with 92 clubs.

The competition started on August 22, 2005 with the first round and ended with the final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on February 26, 2006. The winner of the competition was Manchester United .

First round

The draw for the first round took place on June 28, 2005. All 72 teams in the Football League competed in the first round. The games were played on August 22, 23 and 24, 2005.
