League Cup 1990/91

The League Cup 1990/91 was the 31st edition of the English League Cup , which had existed since 1960 .

The competition started on August 27, 1990 with the first round and ended on April 21, 1991 with the final at Wembley . The title went to Sheffield Wednesday with a 1-0 final over Manchester United . The second division from Sheffield won the league cup for the first time and crowned the season shortly afterwards with promotion to the first division. The defeated finalist from Manchester consoled himself just under a month later by winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1990/91 .
