John Harkes (born March 8, 1967 in Kearny , New Jersey ) is a retired American football player .
Career
After he played from 1985 to 1987 in the selection team of the University of Virginia , 1989 went to the Albany Capitals in the American Soccer League . He started his professional career in 1990 in England at Sheffield Wednesday . He was the second American to play at Wembley Stadium when Sheffield won the League Cup in 1990/91 . Other stations on the British Isles were Derby County , West Ham United and Nottingham Forest .
In the first and second English leagues, he completed a total of 164 professional games and scored 16 goals.
When Major League Soccer was founded in 1996 , Harkes also returned to the USA and played for DC United , New England Revolution and the Columbus Crew , with whom he also ended his career in 2000. In the United States, he played 167 games and scored 16 goals.
At the 1990 World Cup in Italy , he played his first international tournament as a midfielder in the USA . However, the team said goodbye here sang and soundless as the bottom of the group without a point.
In 1994 in the USA, Harkes came with the US team to the round of 16 of the 1994 World Cup , where they lost to Brazil 0: 1 after a good performance .
John Harkes ended his international career in 2000. Between 1987 and 2000 he played 90 times for the USA and scored six goals.
