The League Cup 2013/14 (sponsored by Capital One Cup ) was the 54th edition of the tournament. The tournament started with 92 clubs.
The competition started on August 5, 2013 with the first round and ended with the final at Wembley Stadium in London on March 2, 2014. The winner of the competition was Manchester City for the first time since 1976 with a third cup win.
First round
The draw for the first round took place on June 17, 2013. The Wigan Athletic and Reading FC were the only teams from the Football League that only entered the tournament in the second round, as they were the two best-placed teams last season. The other 70 teams in the Football League had to compete in the first round.
The matches were played on 5th / 6th / 7th. August 2013.
Second round
The 13 Premier League clubs that failed to qualify for a European competition last season got involved in the second round .
The matches took place on August 27 and 28, 2013.
Third round
From the third round, the seven clubs that had qualified for the European competitions for the current season also had to compete.
The matches took place on September 24th and 25th, 2013.
