Costel Fane Pantilimon (born February 1, 1987 in Bacau ) is a Romanian football goalkeeper who is under contract with Nottingham Forest in the Football League Championship . It has been awarded to Omonia Nicosia since January 2020 .

Career

Pantilimon began his career in the youth team of Aerostar Bacau , from where he moved to FC Timișoara in 2006 . He made his debut in the top Romanian league on December 16, 2007 against CFR Cluj , when he came on for Marius Cornel Popa at halftime . The game ended 1-0. In the next season he was the goalkeeper, where he was called up for the first time for the national team of Romania.

Pantilimon made his debut in the friendly against Georgia when he came on for Bogdan Lobonț at halftime . Romania won the game 2-1. Since September 2010 he has been the national team's regular goalkeeper and is in a duel for number one with Ciprian Tătărușanu .

His international club debut was Pantilimon on matchday one of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup in the first leg against Partizan Belgrade , which was lost 2-1; FC Timișoara retired after the first round. In the 2010/11 season he and his team were runner-up behind Oțelul Galați .

In August 2011, Pantilimon was on loan from Manchester City for a year . Although he only played a single league cup game, Manchester City took advantage of the £ 3m purchase option back in February 2012. His contract runs until 2016. On November 2, 2013, he made his league debut for the Citizens. Due to poor performance by regular goalkeeper Joe Hart, Pantilimon was temporarily named number 1.

In the summer of 2014, Pantilimon moved to league rivals AFC Sunderland . There, at the beginning of November 2014, he replaced Vito Mannone as a regular in the gate. On January 19, 2016, Pantilimon moved to newly promoted Watford FC , where he has only been used in four cup games, but was eliminated in the semifinals against Crystal Palace FC . As Heurelho Gomes' deputy , he usually sits on the bench.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Romanian squad . Although he got the number 1, he was only a substitute goalkeeper and was not used in the team's three tournament games until he was eliminated.

For the 2017/18 season , Pantilimon was loaned to the Spanish first division club Deportivo La Coruña for which he played six league games before the loan was ended prematurely and the 31-year-old was loaned to the English second division club Nottingham Forest .

On July 3, 2018, Forest announced the signing of Pantilimons on a firm contract basis.
