Bogdan Lobonț started his career at his hometown club Corvinul Hunedoara when he moved up to the first team that played in the second-rate Divizia B at the beginning of the 1995/96 season . After he was able to conquer a regular place during the season and confirmed his performance the following year, he moved to the Romanian top club Rapid Bucharest in 1997 . He made his debut in Divizia A on August 2, 1997. He also immediately won a regular place at Rapid and won the Romanian Cup in 1998 and the Romanian Championship in the 1998/99 season .

In the winter break of 1999/2000 Lobonț left Rapid and moved to Ajax Amsterdam in the Dutch honor division for a transfer fee of 3 million  euros . At Ajax Lobonț could not prevail due to injuries and lack of experience, so that he was loaned to Dinamo Bucharest for the second half of the 2001/02 season , where he again won the Romanian championship. After returning to Ajax, he made the leap to a regular player during the 2002/03 season and finally won the Dutch championship in 2004.

After losing his place due to injury in 2004 and from then joined Lobonţ no longer was used, during the winter break in 2005/06 as a replacement for the injured Sebastien Frey for 1.5 million euros for Fiorentina , but was on-again Frey in the 2006/07 season ousted again. Then Lobonț joined Dinamo Bucharest for a transfer of 1.1 million euros during the 2006/07 winter break, where he was again Romanian champion in 2007.

In August 2009 he finally left his Romanian homeland and was signed by the Italian top club AS Roma for € 800,000 . There he was only number three behind the two Brazilians Júlio Sérgio Bertagnoli and Doni and only made three competitive appearances in 2009/10: the first he played on matchday 7 of Serie A against SSC Napoli , when he replaced the injured Júlio Sérgio came on as a substitute, and in January he came in again against Chievo Verona because of a red card for Doni. Lobonț played his only 90-minute game in a meaningless 3-0 win on the last group match of the UEFA Europa League at CSKA Sofia .

In August 2010, the Romanian was on the field in the Super Cup against Inter Milan , but the game was lost 3-1. After Júlio Sérgio injured his ankle at the end of September 2010, Lobonț was preferred to Doni and moved into goal in the 1-0 win against Inter Milan and represented the Brazilian in a total of six games until he returned at the end of October. He also represented Sérgio in two games in December, who was out due to muscular problems. But when Sérgio was temporarily unable to play in the back series, the Romanian was no longer used as a substitute, but Doni. Lobon Spieltag was only used again on the last game day of Serie A in a 3-1 win against Sampdoria Genoa .

The two Brazilians left Roma for the 2011/2012 season and Maarten Stekelenburg from the Netherlands was signed as the new number one. Behind him, Lobonț is now number two. When Stekelenburg suffered a concussion in the 0-0 draw against Inter Milan on September 17, the Romanian came on as a substitute and also played the following three league games until Stekelenburg's return, with AS Roma remaining unbeaten and only conceding two goals.

National team

Lobonț has played 83 games for the Romanian national soccer team so far . He made his debut on September 2, 1998 against Liechtenstein . National coach Emerich Jenei nominated him for the European Football Championship 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands, but built on Bogdan Stelea , so Lobonț was not used. Lobonț has been the national team's regular goalkeeper since 2002. At the EM 2008 in Austria and Switzerland he was considered one of the best goalkeepers of the tournament, but could not prevent the Romanian elimination after the preliminary round. Since the European Championships, however, he is no longer the undisputed number one goal of the Romanians and initially alternated with Ciprian Tătărușanu and Costel Pantilimon .

After being out of consideration for a year and a half, Lobonț returned to the national team in May 2012.
