Leandro Castán da Silva (born November 5, 1986 in Jaú ) is a Brazilian football player .

Career

In the club

After a successful trial session in the summer of 2007, the Swedish club Helsingborgs IF Castán from Atlético Mineiro signed. In the Allsvenskan , however, he did not prevail under coach Stuart Baxter , so the club loaned him back to his home club. After returning to Sweden in early 2008, he played for the club in the round of 32 games in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup , in which the team was eliminated from the competition after two defeats against Dutch representative PSV Eindhoven . These were his last games for the club, then he moved again on loan to Brazil, this time to Gremio Barueri . In early 2009, the Brazilian club signed him permanently from Helsingborgs IF. In the summer of 2010, after a FIFA decision , the Swedish club had to pay Atlético Mineiro a training allowance of 2.2 million Swedish kronor .

For the 2012/13 season Castán moved to AS Roma . He made his Serie A debut for Roma on August 26, 2012 in a 2-2 draw with Catania Calcio . He scored his first goal in the Giallorossi dress on December 8, 2012 in a 4-2 win over Fiorentina . In his first season, Castán made 30 appearances for Rome. Also in the following season Castán was an integral part of the team and completed 36 of 38 league games, which he had a large share in qualifying for the Champions League group stage . Since 2016 it has been awarded regularly to various Italian clubs, currently from January 2018 to the end of the season to Cagliari Calcio .

In the national team

Castán was appointed to the Brazilian national team for the first time in September 2012 by the then national coach Mano Menezes . He made his debut for the Seleção on October 16, 2012 in a friendly against Japan , which was won 4-0. A month later, Castán also played in the 1-1 draw against Colombia . This is also currently his last assignment for Brazil.

Personal

In December 2014, he was diagnosed with a cavernoma in his brain. He needed an operation and was out for the rest of the season. In preparation for the 2015/16 season, he resumed training.
