Hunedoara ( German iron market , Hungarian Vajdahunyad ) is a city in Romania ; it is in the Hunedoara district in the Transylvania region . In other variants, the city is called Hunyad , Hannedeng , Hunyadiopolis or Eisenstadt .
;history
The city was first mentioned in 1265. In the Middle Ages, the powerful noble Hunyadi family ruled the city ; the Hungarian King Matthias , his brother Ladislaus and their father Johann Hunyadi come from this family.
The once second largest ironworks in Romania in Hunedoara is now largely closed and no longer has any blast furnaces ; these were blown up. Only a 100-ton arc furnace , a continuous casting - and a rolling mill are still working. The steel mill is owned by ArcelorMittal . Due to the rise in energy prices, ArcelorMittal announced a temporary cessation of production in mid-December 2019.
From 1900 to 2006, the Hunedoara – Ghelari industrial line was operated primarily to supply the ironworks .
By 2023, the city council has spoken out in favor of more efficient local public transport and an improvement in the conditions for non-motorized modes of transport in order to reduce the number of journeys with private cars and thus reduce CO 2 emissions.
population
The population in the entire area of Hunedoara developed as follows:

Attractions
The Hunedoara Castle , Castelul de Hunedoara (also: Burg Corvinus, Burg Corvin (abbreviation), Castle of the Corvinians, Castle Eisenmarkt, Black Castle (German), Castle Vajdahunyad, Castle Hunyadi (Hungarian)), was built around the year 1452 in the Gothic style Built by Johann Hunyadi (Iancu de Hunedoara) on a limestone rock on the remains of a fortress from the 14th century. The remaining parts were built under Matthias Corvinus and the princes Bethlen .
The Pro7 television series "48 hours of fear" was filmed in this castle. It was repeatedly incorrectly mentioned that it was the real castle of Count Dracula. Its historical role model, Vlad III. Drăculea , had only stayed here temporarily. Otherwise, the castle is an ideal film set and is often rented out for this purpose. A large number of international films have already been shot there.
