Henri Camara (born May 10, 1977 in Dakar ) is a former Senegalese football player . He is a record international player and record scorer for the Senegalese national team .
Player career
society
Henri Camara began his professional football career in France in 1998 with Racing Strasbourg . After a year without commitment, he moved to the Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax and, after a strong season with 17 goals in 32 games, to Grasshopper Club Zurich . In the following years he also worked for the French club CS Sedan , the English club Wolverhampton Wanderers and as a loan player for the Scottish series champion Celtic Glasgow . He also played on loan for Southampton FC .
Between 2005 and 2009 he was employed by Wigan Athletic in the Premier League . Camara is an offensive player who is characterized by extreme speed. The Senegalese plays with both feet and has been loaned to league rivals West Ham United and Stoke City .
After more than four months without a new employer, Camara signed a contract with second division Sheffield United until the end of the 2009/10 season. In May 2010 he was also hired for a year with the Greek first division club Atromitos Athens , which he left after a year. From 2011 to 2014 he was under contract with the Greek first division club Panetolikos , for whom he played again in the 2015/16 season after a one-year stopover. After further stations in Greece, Camara ended his career in summer 2018.
National team
For Senegal, Camara took part in the 2002 World Cup and five times in the African Cup of Nations ( 2000 , 2002 , 2004 , 2006 , 2008 ). The performance at the 2002 World Cup, where Senegal made it to the bottom eight, was the greatest success at World Cups so far . In the round of 16, the 2-1 win against Sweden , he scored the interim 1-1 and in the 104th minute the decisive golden goal . He was also named Man of the Match after the game .
Internationally, Camara would have had the opportunity to play for Guinea as his father was born in Guinea . But he decided to play for Senegal because he was born there and he didn't know Guinea very well.
Private
Henri Camara's father is from Guinea and his mother from Senegal . He has a son, Henri Junior (* 2006), with his partner. He belongs to the Susu ethnic group ; although over 99% of them are Muslim, Camara is a devout Christian .
