At the 2006 World Cup , he played in good form, but was eliminated with his team against England in the round of 16. In the internet poll for the “best young player” at the World Cup, Valencia took first place by far, thanks in particular to the support of its compatriots: it received 34% of the vote and was nine percentage points ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo .
