Tesho Akindele (born March 31, 1992 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian football player . The striker has been playing for Orlando City in Major League Soccer since 2019 .

Career

youth

Akindele was born in Canada. His father is from Nigeria and his mother is Canadian. When he was 8 years old, his family moved to the United States . In the United States, he grew up in Thornton, Colorado and attended Northglenn High School. At the age of 17, he turned down an offer to join the Colorado Rapids Academy.

After high school he attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado , where he played college soccer for the Colorado Mines Orediggers for the next four years . With a total of 76 goals scored, he became the college team's most successful goalscorer. He was nominated four times to the All American selection and in 2012 to the First Team NSCAA All-American. In the same year he was honored with the RMAC Offensive Player of the Year award. In 2010 he was awarded RMAC Freshman of the Year and an appointment to the NSCAA First Team All-American.

In 2013 he completed a game for the Real Colorado Foxes in the USL Premier Development League .

FC Dallas

On January 16, 2014 Akindele was selected in the MLS SuperDraft 2014 in the first round by FC Dallas . He made his debut for the Texans on April 12, 2014. At the end of the season he was awarded the MLS Rookie of the Year Award (Best Young Player). a. for scoring seven goals in 26 games.

National team

Akindele attended a training camp of the Canadian U-17 selection in 2009 and made his debut for the juniors on April 2, 2009.

On November 5, 2014, he declined an invitation from the Canadian national soccer team on the grounds that he would like to play for the US national soccer team. He was invited to a US training camp on January 9, 2015, but was unable to take part in the two friendly games. He did not yet have a US passport.

On April 14, 2015, the Canadian coach Benito Floro announced to the media that Akindele would play 99% for the Canadians. On June 2, the striker was invited again and accepted this. He made his debut on June 11, 2015 in the World Cup 2018 qualifier against Dominica . He scored his first international goal on June 16, 2015, also against Dominica.
