Benito Floro Sanz (born June 2, 1952 in Gijón ) is a Spanish football coach .

Career as a coach

Benito Floro began his coaching career in 1989 at Albacete Balompié . With this club he reached the direct march through from the third highest division, the Segunda División B , in the first class of the Primera División . The second division championship of 1991 was followed in 1992 by a remarkable 7th place in the top division of Spanish football. These successes meant that no less a club than Real Madrid noticed him and hired him as a coach for the coming season. With Madrid he was runner-up in the 1992/93 season and led the team to victory in the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de España in 1993. After 2 years with the Royal, he returned to his old place of activity Albacete Balompié, where he held the coaching post for another 2 years until the club was relegated to the Segunda División .

From 1996 to 2004 he continued to work as a trainer both in Spain and abroad ( Japan , Mexico ). In 2005 he became the sports director of the football section at Real Madrid . In this post he only worked for a few months, as he did not want to stand in the way of the future management of the club after the resignation of then President Florentino Pérez . In the meantime, he also worked as a football commentator for the Spanish private broadcaster Telecinco . At the beginning of 2009 he resumed his work as a coach at Barcelona SC Guayaquil in Ecuador . After a few months, the contract was terminated because the association neither had a sufficient planning structure nor the necessary funds.

In mid-2010 he was associated with the national teams of Israel , Guatemala and Saudi Arabia .

In August 2013 he was appointed coach of the Canadian national team and held the job until his contract ended in September 2016.
