Brou Benjamin Angoua (born November 28, 1986 in Anyama ) is an Ivorian football player on the position of defender . He currently plays for Levadiakos in the Football League , the second highest division in Greek football .

Career

Career start in Grand-Bassam

After starting his career as a soccer player at the amateur sports club Toumodi FC in the port city of Grand-Bassam in 2000 , he was active in the youth team there until 2004, before moving to the Ivorian first division team Africa Sports National . At the club from the former capital of the country, he was used on the defensive in the following two years and became a regular player in the club's defensive line. After performing well in his home country, Angoua received a promising offer from Europe .

Change to Hungary

The Hungarian first division took him for the 2005/06 season under contract, where he should strengthen the defense. After a total of only five league appearances in his first season, he was increasingly used in the Hungarian defense line from the 2006/07 season . In addition to 23 appearances in Hungary's top football league, the native Ivorian also played in the Magyar Kupa , the Hungarian cup competition. He made it with the team in the final, where the team eventually defeated Debreceni Vasutas SC on penalties and won the cup. Furthermore, Angoua was used in the newly introduced Ligakupa , another cup competition, in 2007/08 and was Szuperkupa finalist of the year 2007 with his team .

By winning the cup in the previous season, Angoua was entitled to prove his talent in intercontinental football in the 2007/08 season . Angoua was used in all four qualifying matches for his team's 2007/08 UEFA Cup , with the team eliminated from the current competition in the second qualifying round against Hamburger SV . During the four encounters, Angoua also scored his first goal in an intercontinental competition. In the league, it was similarly successful for the committed defensive player. In 23 championship games he scored one goal and also made it with the team to the final of the Magyar Kupa 2007/08 , where they were clearly defeated against the previous year’s final opponent with a total score of 1: 9 on the return leg.

Although another mediocre eighth place in the final table of the Nemzeti Bajnokság, Honvéd Budapest was qualified for the first round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup 2008 due to the good placement in the official Hungarian football cup . In the competition, in which Angoua was able to prove his talent in two games, the team was eliminated in the third round against SK Sturm Graz . Angoua was only used sporadically within the league and only made 14 league appearances in the 2008/09 season . This season, the number of cards he received decreased significantly compared to the previous seasons. In the final of the Magyar Kupa 2008/09 Benjamin Angoua with Honvéd Budapest could just about prevail with a total score of 1-0 against Győri ETO FC and thus won the Hungarian Cup again. In addition, the team made it to the final of the Hungarian Supercup one more time after 2007, which the Debreceni VSC won 1-0.

After he and his team were clearly eliminated by Fenerbahçe Istanbul in the third qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League and made 14 league appearances by the winter break of the 2009/10 season , in which he scored an own goal, Angoua was about to change clubs. Since he clearly failed in the goals set for himself and thus participation in the UEFA Europa League , he received an offer from the French first division club Valenciennes FC .

Transfer to France

Even before the end of the transition period, Angoua moved to the northern French club at the end of January 2010, with whom he started the second half of the 2009/10 season quite well . Around two weeks after signing his contract with the Northern French, the Ivorian made his first appearance in France's top division when he was on the pitch for the entire game in a 2-1 home win over OGC Nice . At the end of the season, Angoua scored the only goal of his team in the last round in a 1-1 away draw against AS Nancy after a free kick by Renaud Cohade .

Loan to New England and move to Levadiakos

During his time at Guingamp , he was awarded the New England Revolution for one year in 2017 . There he made one goal in 26 games. After his contract with Guingamp was terminated in 2018, he was accepted a little later by the Greek club Levadiakos . There he made 21 games and one goal in Super League 1 and 2 .

National team career

After he was previously used in the various Ivorian youth selections, Angoua was also used in the Ivorian U-20 selection from 2005 , for which he was finally used in various international matches until 2008. In 2008 he took part in the soccer tournament of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing with his home country's Olympic selection , completed all four of his team's games and finally eliminated with the Ivorians in the quarter-finals against the Olympic selection of Nigeria.

Angoua made his debut for the senior national team of his home country in the same year, when he played for Igor Lolo in the 60th minute of a 2-2 draw against Israel on 19 November . In the following year, the defensive player came to further missions for the national team of Ivory Coast, including two missions in the qualifying for the 2010 World Cup .

In May 2010, Angoua was appointed by the coach of the national team of his home country, the successful Bosnian-Herzegovinian coach Vahid Halilhodžić , to the Ivory Coast's provisional 30-player squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa , and was ultimately also part of the final 23-man squad the Ivorian, who went to the World Cup finals with the new coach Sven-Göran Eriksson . Angoua is one of five players (six if you include Vincent Aboubakar , who was called to the squad while he was in Cameroon) of Valenciennes FC, which will take part in the 2010 World Cup.

Play style

Angoua himself thinks that his greatest strengths lie in the header game , in his speed and in the opening of the game. The defender, who is mainly used in central defense , can also be used as a right defender or in defensive midfield. There he can assert himself well against his opponents due to his physical strength and robust physique.
