In the preliminary round of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Ivorian national football team met in the group G in Brazil , North Korea and Portugal . After they had only drawn against Portugal and had the expected defeat against the clear group favorites Brazil, they not only had to rely on the support of the Brazilians in the last game against Portugal, but should also have surpassed the Portuguese 7-0 against North Korea . Neither happened and the Ivory Coast was eliminated at the first World Cup on its own continent after the preliminary round.
