Aristide Benoît Zogbo (born December 30, 1981 in Abidjan ) is an Ivorian football goalkeeper . He has been under contract with Entente Sportive Bingerville on the Ivory Coast since summer 2010.

Athletic career

Zogbo's football career was initially off the "big stage". Up to the age of 25 he played in the Ivorian homeland for Issia Wazi . With the club from Issia - located in the central region of Haut-Sassandra - he won the Ivorian Cup after a 1-0 final victory against the army club SOA in 2006 and was in the final the following year, but against record champions ASEC Mimosas after a 0-0 in overtime they lost 0-3.

The physically very robust goalkeeper then decided to move to Egypt, where he was between the posts in Cairo from 2007 for the club Ittihad El Shorta, which had only been founded two years earlier . By 2009 he rose with the club of the police union, initially in the top division of the country and held the class the following year.

In August 2009 he signed a one-year contract with the Israeli club Maccabi Netanja and came after his debut in the Ligat ha'Al against Maccabi Petach Tikwa (3-0) to a total of 16 appearances in championship games. After his contract expired in the summer of 2010, he returned to the Ivory Coast and signed with the then Division 2 club ES Bingerville.

Ivorian national team

It was only relatively later, at the age of 26, that Zogbo, known as the “penalty killer”, made his first A international match for Ivory Coast , after having been able to prove himself regularly at a high level as a goalkeeper in Egypt since 2007. Under the then coach Vahid Halilhodžić , he made his debut on May 24, 2008 against Japan and in November 2009 presented himself within four days in the World Cup qualifier against Guinea (3-0) and in the friendly game against Germany (2-2) in an important duty - and a prestige game.

Although he should always remain in the shadow of the regular goalkeeper Boubacar Barry , he consolidated his position as the second goalkeeper of the "Elephants" - the nickname of the Ivorian national team - and was part of the squad for the 2010 African Cup . There he stayed without a minute. A short time later, the new coach Sven-Göran Eriksson nominated him in June 2010 in the 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup in South Africa . In this tournament, too, he was not used.
