Unterschönenbuch is part of the municipality of Ingenbohl . The hamlet is located in the northeast of the municipality, close to the border with Schwyz , to which the neighboring Oberschönenbuch belongs. It has around 150 residents.

economy

Unterschönenbuch is a power plant location of the Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke (CKW) or its subsidiary, the Schwyz electricity company .

In addition, the cement company Holcim operates a quarry and a crushed stone works in Unterschönenbuch. However, mining is no longer carried out in Unterschönenbuch, but in the Fronalpstock . The mining areas in Unterschönenbuch themselves were filled up again or provided with biotopes . As the compound of the ballast works for now disused Holcim cement plant in wells served the Mühlibähnli , a narrow-diesel powered drive train. There have been no trains since the plant was closed, and the tracks were dismantled in the course of building a district heating network in the Ingenbohl community, with the exception of a short piece in the Unterschönenbuch quarry.

Wendel Chapel, Unterschönenbuch

Chapels

St. Wendelin

The construction of the chapel, which forms the center of Unterschönenbuch, began in 1625. Ten years later it was completed and consecrated by the Bishop of Constance in 1640 . In 1708, the current building began, which was subjected to extensive restorations in 1827/28, 1886 and most recently in 1992/1993. The family coats of arms of Ingenbohl citizens are embedded in the windows .

Toothache Chapel

The Zahnwehkapelle is the smallest chapel in Ingenbohl's municipality. It is on the Camino de Santiago . It is dedicated to Saint Apollonia , whose teeth, according to legend, were knocked out. The privately owned chapel is firmly anchored in the people, so people made pilgrimages to the chapel when they had toothache.

traffic

Unterschönenbuch is not connected to public transport, the two closest bus stops in the municipality are Gätzli and Klosterstrasse of the AAGS. The Mühlibähnli was always reserved for freight traffic until it was closed.

The hamlet is on the Ingenbohl - Ibach side street.

The new Felderboden long-distance train station on the NEAT is to go into operation as a replacement for the previous long-distance train stations at Brunnen and Schwyz from 2030 . A variant would be the construction of the train station immediately west of Unterschönenbuch at what is now the A4 works yard .

The quarry area Unterschönenbuch was up for debate as one of the areas of a possible new valley station for a new aerial cableway to the Stoos as a replacement for the Schwyz – Stoos funicular .
