Franz Betschart (also "Gross Franz" ; * 1871 ; † September 15, 1949 ) was a Swiss wrestler .

career

Franz Betschart was, together with his brother Xaver, one of the best wrestlers of his time. You can find the bet charts in the rankings on the Stoos, the Rigi, the Central Switzerland and the Federal between 1890 and 1910 regularly among the first places. They also took turns in the best rankings in stone throwing and running. In 1908 Xaver Betschart won the stone throwing at the Swiss Confederation with a record. In general, the "Güchlers" were said to have an unlikely power.

Betschart performed in the Swiss National Circus in Zurich in May 1900 , which brought him a lot of trouble with the wrestling association. In fights with the audience, a conqueror of Franz would have won up to 500 francs. The sum never had to be paid.

Life

Franz Betschart was the oldest of 10 children of Melk Betschart (1839-1915) and Elisabetha, née Holdener vom Feld (1850-1945). In 1901 he married Kreszentina Betschart (1880–1938). The marriage remained childless, the couple lived in Unterschönenbuch (Oberigs). Franz Betschart died of a stroke at the age of 78, like his wife 11 years earlier.
