Ingenbohl is a municipality in the district of Schwyz in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland .

geography

Historic aerial photo by Werner Friedli from 1948

Ingenbohl lies at 435 m above sea level. M., on Lake Lucerne , surrounded by Urmiberg, Fronalpstock and the Mythen . The neighboring communities of Ingenbohl are - clockwise from the west - Gersau (in the Gersau district of the same name ), and Lauerz , Schwyz and Morschach in the Schwyz district. The Muota and the Leewasser brook flow through Ingenbohl and flow into Brunnen in Lake Lucerne. Ingenbohl borders on Seelisberg (Canton Uri) and Emmetten (Canton Nidwalden) across the lake .

The political community Ingenbohl consists of the localities Ingenbohl and Brunnen , as well as the settlements Unterschönenbuch , Wylen and Schränggigen .

coat of arms

Since the village part of Brunnen grew to Ingenbohl, it was decided in 1947 to produce a new coat of arms that stands for both villages or parts of the village. A split coat of arms was created. Above in red a white cross that stands for Ingenbohl, and below in blue a white ship that stands for Brunnen.

Economy, transport

Ingenbohl has its own railway station of the Gotthard railway , but the name of the village fountain bears. The station is served every hour by the S2 (Erstfeld – Arth-Goldau – Zug) of the Zug urban railway and some express trains. In addition, the Brunnen station is the hourly end point of the S3 of the Lucerne S-Bahn . As part of the Rigi-Mythen master plan, an S-Bahn station is allegedly planned in the Stegstuden industrial area . Auto AG Schwyz with its bus routes Schwyz - Brunnen - Gersau - Vitznau - Weggis - Küssnacht and Brunnen - Morschach serves as the distributor . A cable car leads from Brunnen to the Urmiberg , and the Lake Lucerne Shipping Company operates a boat station.

The route of the Mühlibähnli ran between the former Holcim Brunnen factory and the Unterschönenbuch quarry until 2010 , but its operation has been discontinued and the tracks have been removed. Reismühle Brunnen , a subsidiary of the Coop group and a production site of Schwyzer Milchhuus AG, which belongs to the Migros group as part of Estavayer Lait , is still located in Ingenbohl .

The A4 motorway ends between Ibach bei Schwyz and Ingenbohl . Its continuation is the two-lane Axenstrasse , which then follows the Urnersee of the Vierwaldstättersee. In Flüelen , the A2 continues in the direction of the Gotthard road tunnel and then into Ticino.

Brunnen is a tourist resort. Numerous shops, hotels and restaurants have settled there. Ingenbohl's side is much more industrialized in comparison. Other branches of business are agriculture and small businesses.

In Ingenbohl is the Ingenbohl Monastery , the motherhouse or generalate of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross .
