Ugo Rondinone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ugo Rondinone (born November 30, 1964 in Schwyz ) is a Swiss artist.

Life

Rondinone grew up in Brunnen SZ . From 1986 to 1990 he studied with Ernst Caramelle at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . Rondinone has lived in Zurich since 1990 and since he was awarded the artist studio at PS1 in New York City in 1998 , also in New York. Rondinone works as a concept , media and installation artist , with large-format woodcuts, abstract painting, sculpture, photography and comics. His central themes include dealing with spatial aspects and the visualization of time and transience. Rondinone also appeared as a curator of exhibitions and assessed this activity as an independent form of artistic expression. Three of the exhibitions he curated ( the third mind 2007 in the Palais de Tokyo ; the spirit level 2011 in the Gladstone Gallery , New York and Artists and Poets 2015 in the Vienna Secession ) deal intensively with the interrelationship between poetry and the visual arts. In 2014 he realized the artist house "the house no.1" in Würenlos (see web link) as a total work of art .
