Regional , also Comboio Regional , is a type of train of the Portuguese state railway company Comboios de Portugal or its business unit CP Regional for local rail passenger transport . In addition to the Urbano train type , which is only operated in the conurbations of Lisbon , Porto and Coimbra , it forms the basic service on most of the routes on the Portuguese rail network .

Characteristics

“Regional” trains are characterized by the fact that they usually stop at all train stations and stops along the route and travel at a relatively low speed. The train type does not include a catering service or the possibility of seat reservations.

Trains of the “regional” type of train run on almost all routes, but sometimes with a very limited timetable (1–2 trains per day), and a few routes are operated by trains with a “line character” and thus consistently synchronized cycle times. Exceptions are the heavily traveled routes, especially the Linha do Norte .

vehicles

Only vehicles of the 2240 series are used for this type of train on electrified railway lines. On the diesel- powered lines, CP Regional uses the 0350 , 0450 , 0592 (for wide-gauge lines) and 9630 (for narrow-gauge lines) multiple unit series . There are no passenger coaches in this type of train.
