CP Regional , is the regional transport division of the Portuguese state railway Comboios de Portugal . It operates the entire Portuguese regional services ( regional , inter-regional ) and the Vortortzüge ( Urbano ) in the space Coimbra . CP Regional , like the CP subsidiaries CP Lisboa and CP Porto , receives grants from the Portuguese state; in 2010 this was 19 million euros.

In 1997, the Portuguese state railway Caminhos-de-ferro Portugueses (CP) fundamentally changed its corporate structure as part of the Portuguese railway reform and created corporate divisions for suburban traffic in Lisbon and Porto, for maintenance as well as a joint division for regional and long-distance traffic ( CP Unidade de Viagens Interurbanas e Regionais , UVIR). In 2005, this was divided into CP Longo Curso (long-distance traffic) and CP Regional (regional traffic).

Despite the internally separate traffic divisions, the CP Regional appears uniformly with the usual CP design. For the passenger, the difference is therefore hardly noticeable.

Data

In 2007, CP Regional carried 13.8 million passengers with 457 connections per working day, and in 2008 with 491 connections, 14 million. The subsidiary currently employs 1,022 people. Compared to the trains of other subsidiaries of the CP, the punctuality values of the regional trains are mixed.

In 2007, CP Regional generated sales of 32.4 million euros, which fell to 32 million euros in 2008.

Lines

CP Regional operates a very extensive network of routes, with the company's trains running on almost all railway lines in Portugal. A very limited timetable is used on individual routes (1–2 trains per day), few routes are operated by trains with a “line character” and therefore consistently synchronized cycle times. Exceptions are the heavily traveled routes, especially the Linha do Norte .

CP Regional operates three types of trains: The basic offer of Comboios de Portugal serve the features of regional , comparable to a German regional train to stop at all stations and stops. There are regional connections from almost all stops and train stations in Portugal. The InterRegional , which is also used on longer routes (e.g. Porto - Régua ) and does not stop at all stations, is an accelerated regional offer . In the Coimbra area , the trains operated by CP Regional between Figueira da Foz and Coimbra are called suburban trains ( Urbano ), originally the trains on the Ramal da Figueira da Foz and Ramal da Lousã routes, which have since been discontinued, also belonged to them.

Actually a line of the long-distance transport division CP Longo Curso , CP Regional also operates the internacional line called Celta between Porto and Vigo ( Galicia ).

Vehicle fleet

The CP Regional fleet is diversified in order to be able to cater to the respective requirements of the branched Portuguese route network. In principle, railcars are preferred, and now exclusively used.

The class 0350 railcars , which were converted in 1999/2000 and based on the older NOHAB railcars from the 1950s, are used on short, non-electrified routes . For larger numbers of passengers on routes that are also not electrified, CP Regional has the two-part railcars of the 0450 series , which also consist of converted cars from the 1960s. To replace the outdated railcars of the 0600/0650 series , CP Regional borrowed 17 diesel railcars of the 0592 series from the Spanish Renfe . These are mainly used on the Linha do Minho and Linha do Douro , but are still serviced in Spain.

The CP has two series for the two narrow-gauge branch lines operated by CP Regional . On the Linha do Tua , the Metropolitano Ligeiro de Mirandela is using small diesel multiple units of the 9500 series on behalf of CP Regional , which are based on former Yugoslav cars. Two -part diesel railcars of the 9630 series from Portuguese production operate on the Linha do Vouga .

On electrified routes, CP Regional only uses the three-part railcars of the 2240 series , which are based on modernized cars of the 2100 , 2150 and 2200 series.
