Fridolin Steiner

Fridolin Steiner , religious name Lukas Steiner OSB (born July 4, 1849 in Ingenbohl , Canton Schwyz , † December 2, 1906 in Beuron ) was a Swiss painter and Benedictine. In addition to Desiderius Lenz and Gabriel Wüger , he is one of the founders of the Beuron art school, which is related to the Nazarene style .

Career

After attending grammar school, Fridolin Steiner received his artistic training from Lenz and Wüger in Rome. From 1868 to 1870 was involved in the painting of the St. Maurus Chapel near Beuron. From 1871 to 1872 he attended the Munich Art Academy for further artistic training.

In 1873 he entered the Benedictine Abbey of Beuron and received the religious name Lukas after the patron saint of painters . In 1874 he made the solemn religious vows there.

Further stations of his artistic work were from 1875 to 1876 painting in the Konradikapelle of the Konstanzer Munster , from 1876 to 1880 wall paintings in the monastery Monte Cassino , 1881-1887 in the abbey church Emmaus in Prague and from 1889 to 1890 the decoration of the monastery chapel Teplitz in Bohemia ( today Teplice , Czech Republic). From 1892 he was no longer able to work artistically and lived in the Beuron monastery until his death.
