Alpthal (in local dialect Alpel [ ˈɑlpəl ] or Dörfli ) is a village, a valley and a political municipality in the Schwyz district of the Swiss canton of Schwyz .

geography

The community consists of the districts Alpthal, Brunni SZ and Eigen. It lies in the rear part of the Alptal and is traversed by the Alp .

history

In 1018 Emperor Heinrich II donated the Albetal to the Einsiedeln monastery . In the fairy tale dispute between the abbey and Schwyz , according to a document dated 1217, Count Rudolf the Elder of Habsburg awarded the valley to the Schwyzians, which was confirmed with the peace of 1350.

Attractions

economy

With the development of the adjacent slopes by cable cars (1950, Brunni-Holzegg) and ski lifts (1965, Brunni; 1974 Haggenegg), the hamlet of Brunni, located at the northern foot of the Mythen , has achieved a certain level of popularity. Thanks to its proximity to the Zurich agglomeration, the area is a popular day trip destination. In addition to tourism, agriculture and the timber industry are other sources of income in the community.
