Wylen (also Wilen ) is, together with Ingenbohl , Brunnen and Unterschönenbuch, one of the four parts of the Swiss municipality of Ingenbohl in the canton of Schwyz . Located on a hilltop at the foot of the Urmiberg , Wylen has developed into a residential area, especially in the last two decades.

history

Wylen was first mentioned in 1217 in the Einsiedler Urbar as Wilare . The water well at the St. Laurenz Chapel, which is a listed building, also dates from this time . In the 1980s, the upswing in Wylen began as a new residential area in the Ingenbohl community. Initially, buildings were built in the Herrenmatt Quarter at the southern foot of the hill , before the houses along the Ballyweg were built in the immediate vicinity . Further quarters emerged near the chapel in Bantlirain. Wylen now forms a continuous settlement in a west-east direction. In 2003, an electric arc formed in the Schränggigen area between a fir tree and the Atel - Lukmanier line , which caused a chain reaction to cause a nationwide power failure in Italy, but also in the city of Geneva , Ticino , Misox and the Upper Engadine .

Economy and Transport

There are no longer any commercial enterprises in Wylen, the Wylen restaurant and the Wiget drinks warehouse either closed or moved to the center of the village. There was also a quarry in the depression between Urmiberg and Wylenhügel. Their buildings have recently had to give way to other residential areas. When the Holcim cement plant in Ingenbohl was still in operation, it was not uncommon for centimeter-thick layers of dust to be found on cars and balconies in Wylen. Public transport does not yet exist in Wylen, but the introduction of local bus connections will be examined and demanded by politicians in the future. The nearest train station is Brunnen , which is also where the AAGS bus stop is located. Individual traffic is mainly handled via Wylenstrasse, which connects the hamlet with the Brunnen train station, but also with Hauptstrasse 2b (intersection Rosengartenstrasse / Luzernerstrasse). There is a road connection to the north with Schränggigenstrasse, which joins Seewenstrasse in the Stegstuden area .

Quarters

Ballyweg / Herrenmatt / Swords

The westernmost part of Wylen is formed by the settlements between the south-western part of Wylenstrasse and Urmibergstrasse and around the Herrenmatt, Ballyweg, Obere Schwertern and Untere Schwertern streets. They were created in the 1970s and 1980s around the former Ballyheim , which sits enthroned on a slightly protruding extension of the hill towards the basin. Here you will mainly find single-family houses, terraced single-family houses and double single-family houses, there are still two apartment blocks on Herrenmatt.

Wylen

The central quarter is connected to the Ballyweg / Herrenmatt / Schwertern quarter to the east. The center of the entire hamlet is by the chapel and the draw well. All around, new residential buildings have been built in recent years, such as the Bantlirain single-family home district with the Bantlipark extension. The Vision 3000 development is also striking .

Oblique

Schränggigen starts very loosely to the east of Wylen. This area, which is often referred to as an independent hamlet, consists mainly of farms and extends from Wylen to the confluence of Schränggigenstrasse and Seewenstrasse.
