Nikoleta Stefanova (also spelled Stefanowa , Bulgarian Николета Стефанова ; born April 22, 1984 in Teteven ) is an Italian table tennis player born in Bulgaria . She was twice second in doubles at European Championships .
youth
Left-handed Nikoleta Stefanova was born in Bulgaria. Her mother had played in the junior national team, her father was a top Bulgarian player. In 1986 the family moved to Italy, first to Sicily, later to Milan, where her father worked as a trainer and supported her in her sporting career. At the age of five Stefanova started playing table tennis. Internationally, she always performed for Italy.
She achieved her first successes in her youth. At the European Youth Championships in 1997 she was second in the individual. In 1998 she won the doubles title with Cornelia Vaida (Croatia), in 2000 with Sandra Paović (Croatia).
Adults
From 1999 to 2010 Stefanova was nominated eleven times for world championships . In doing so, she never came close to medal ranks. In 2007 she took second place behind Li Jiao in the Europe TOP-12 tournament .
From 2003 to 2009 Stefanova took part in the European Championship five times . In 2003 she was team European champion with Italy, in individual she reached the semi-finals. At the following European championships she always won a medal in doubles with Wenling Tan Monfardini : bronze in 2005 and 2007 and silver in 2008 and 2009 .
In 2004 and 2008 Stefanova took part in the Summer Olympics. In July 2011 she was 77th in the ITTF world rankings .
National successes in Italy
Stefanova played for the San Mauro Team until 2001 and then moved to Germany for one season for Team Heidifoto Coesfeld in the Bundesliga . She later returned to Italy to Sterilgarda TT Castel Goffredo , with whose women's team she won the Italian team championship six times in a row from 2003 to 2006. In 2006 and 2007 the team also won the Champions League . She won numerous titles in the individual competitions of the Italian championship:
- 6 times singles: 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010
- 6 times doubles: 1997, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009
- 6 times mixed: 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010
