The Schwyz station of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is located in Seewen ( Canton Schwyz ), which politically belongs to the municipality of Schwyz .

history

The station was opened in 1882 when the Gotthard Railway started operating from Immensee to Chiasso. With the GB nationalization in 1909, the station came into the possession of the SBB . In 1900 the station was connected to the Schwyz tram network with the construction of the Schwyz Bahnhof – Schwyz Post line , which was extended in 1914 to the Brunnen station and the Brunner boat station.

In 1979 and 1980 the entire station was renovated, the station building demolished and replaced by the postmodern building that now exists. The platform was also renewed. The track systems were expanded.

investment

The railway facilities include four through tracks, three of which are on a platform. However, according to the schedule, only tracks 2 (in the direction of Brunnen) and 3 (in the direction of Steinen / Arth-Goldau ) on the central platform are used for passenger traffic, while track 1 on the house platform and track 4 without a platform are used for overtaking trips. There are also storage and sidings, mainly for the Schwyzerland show dairy , KIBAG , Arthur Weber Stahl and the Seewen arsenal area. The bus station is next to the reception building and has three bus platforms.

location

The Schwyz SBB train station is located in the middle of the Schwyz basin in the Seewen district between the Mythen and Urmiberg mountains . It is located on the north-south axis between Zurich and Ticino . The center of Schwyz is two kilometers away.
