qualification
The team of coach Rabah Saâdane qualified for the World Cup in South Africa through the qualifying games of the African Football Association CAF .
In the second qualifying round Algeria met in Group 6 on Gambia , Senegal and Liberia . After six games, Algeria rose to round 3 as group winners.
There the Algerian national team met in Group 3 against Egypt , Zambia and Rwanda . After six games, Algeria and Egypt were in first place in the group, but had the same number of points as the Egyptian national team and the same goal difference. Furthermore, the two teams scored the same number of goals in the six qualifying games with nine goals each. In the two direct duels against each other, each team was able to win once and also achieved a goal difference of 3: 3, which is why the World Cup final participant was determined after renouncing the drawing of lots by means of a decision game in a neutral country. Algeria won 1-0 in this game played in Sudan and thus qualified for the World Cup finals.
After the qualifying match between the two teams on November 14, 2009, there had already been serious riots by the fans of both teams. After the play-off on November 18, further attacks by both supporters took place.

The Fennecs lost 3-0 in a preparatory game against Ireland at the end of May . On June 6th they beat the national team of the UAE in Fürth with a goal by Ziani 1-0.

In the preliminary round of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Algerian national football team met in the Group C of England , the United States and Slovenia . Algeria was unable to take advantage of the first World Cup on its home continent. Only against England managed to score a goalless 0-0, the other two games were just lost. Without a goal, the Algerians landed on the bottom of the table after the preliminary round and were eliminated.
