Rafik Zoheir Djebbour ( Arabic رفيق جبور, DMG Rafīq Ǧabbūr ; * March 8, 1984 in Grenoble ) is a former Algerian soccer player .
society
Djebbour, whose parents came from the Algerian Mediterranean province of Chlef , grew up in south-east France and caught the attention of AJ Auxerre's talent scouts when he was playing for Les Deux Rochers FC not far from Grenoble . The renowned youth boarding school of "AJA" trained the young striker for five years and Djebbour often scored well over 20 goals per season. The jump into the "first team" was then denied to him and so he came in only eight league games of the B-team in the 2003/04 season.
Stéphane Pauwels, who had already worked in the team of Georges Leekens and later of Robert Waseige for the Algerian national team, then convinced Djebbour to switch to the Belgian first division club RAA La Louvière , for which he now worked as a sports director. After lengthy negotiations with Guy Roux , who was responsible in Auxerre at the time , he let his former protégé move to the neighboring country in the north for free. Djebbour did not meet expectations in Belgium and in a successful team that finished seventh in the end, Djebbour often only played as a substitute. The contract was terminated and a new employer was found in July 2005 in the Greek second division club Ethnikos Asteras .
In the suburb of Kesariani to the east of Athens, the striker who was “strong in the ball, with good speed and a decent finish” made his sporting breakthrough. In less than half a year he scored eleven goals in 16 league games and was therefore recommended for the top Greek league. From January 2006 he first went on the hunt for goals for Atromitos Athens , before he joined the Panionios Athens club, which was then managed by Ewald Lienen . Especially at the last-mentioned club, Djebbour established itself in the Greek elite class. In addition, he played six games in the UEFA Cup for the first time in a European club competition, scored two goals there and was fourth-best scorer in the top Greek division with 14 goals at the end of the 2007/08 season. With the change to AEK Athens for a transfer fee of 2.9 million euros, the next and logical step in development followed in summer 2008.
But Djebbour found it difficult in the new environment. Both injury problems, an internal team conflict with the Argentine Ignacio Scocco and an "extended vacation" in September 2009 ensured that Djebbour fell out of favor with coach Dušan Bajević . At the start of the 2009/10 season, he presented himself to a number of clubs for trial training, including Celtic Glasgow in Scotland , Blackburn Rovers in England and Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany . All envisaged transfer opportunities failed and in January 2010 AEK Athens took on the "prodigal son" again, where he played 14 league games and five play-off games in the 2009/10 season.
On January 21, 2011 Djebbour moved to Olympiacos . His contract, initially limited to six months, was extended for another two years at the end of the 2010/11 season . In the 2012/13 season he was the top scorer in the Greek Super League with 20 goals in 25 games .
After a temporary move on loan to the Turkish first division club Sivasspor , he signed a contract with the English second division club Nottingham Forest in January 2014, which was valid until summer 2016 . Then followed a season at APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus , where he won the championship and cup in 2015 .
On September 9, 2016 at midnight, Djebbour signed a three-year contract with the Greek first division club Aris Thessaloniki . Djebbour was without a club and therefore had no problem signing his new contract. But after a year he moved on to the French third division club GS Consolat . However, he only played one season game there and ended his active career in summer 2018.
National team
On August 15, 2006 Djebbour made his debut for the Algerian national team as a substitute for Noureddine Daham in the 68th minute in a friendly against Gabon (0-2). However, it took over 1½ years until the next test against the DR Congo (1: 1). He then played nine qualifying games for the 2010 World Cup , but was left out in the decisive second round and the play-off against Egypt . The coach Rabah Saâdane also failed to nominate for the interim African Cup in 2010 - especially due to Djebour's vacant club situation in Athens. As the “fourth striker” behind Abdelkader Ghezzal , Rafik Saïfi and Karim Matmour , Saâdane then nominated him for the 23-man squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa.
