Rafik Saïfi ( Arabic رفيق صايفي, DMG Rafīq Ṣāyifī ; * February 7, 1975 in Algiers ) is a former Algerian football player and today's coach .

society

Rafik Saïfi began playing football at the lower-class Algerian clubs CRB Bordj El Kiffan , IRB Sougueur and IB Khémis El Khechna , and excelled there as a goal scorer. In 1996 he moved to MC Algier and three years later became Algerian champions with the capital city club. Although he was very popular with the club's fans for his large part in this success, Saïfi decided in 1999 to move to ES Troyes AC in France. For the club from Champagne played a total of five seasons, was used regularly, and remained loyal to him even after relegation to Ligue 2 in 2003. A year later he moved to FC Istres , which had just been promoted to French Ligue 1 . Here he played in the regular formation, but rose with the club at the end of the season, which is why Saïfi moved to the Corsican club AC Ajaccio . After his new club at the end of the 2005/06 season only occupied one relegation place, Saïfi joined FC Lorient . After three more seasons in Ligue 1, with 90 games and 25 goals, Rafik Saïfi moved to the end of his career on August 8, 2009 for Al-Khor Sports Club in Qatar . Although he scored a goal in his first competitive match there, his frequent exemptions for the Algerian national team met with little approval from his new employer, which is why Saïfi soon returned on loan to his former club FC Istres, which now played in Ligue 2 . After six months he moved permanently to Amiens SC and ended his active career in 2012.

National team

For the national team of Algeria Saïfi came in 1998 on the occasion of a friendly against Bulgaria for his first international appearance. He was then regularly appointed to the national team and was part of the team at the 2002 African Cup of Nations in Mali, which, however, was eliminated after the preliminary round. After more than 50 games for Algeria, Algeria's national coach Rabah Saâdane had not included him in the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in early 2010 for disciplinary reasons. At the 2010 World Cup he was back in the squad and was substituted on twice, against Slovenia and the USA, in the final minutes.

Trainer

From 2017 to 2019 he was assistant coach of his former club MC Alger . In the meantime, he looked after the team for six interim games.
