Career
Gaouaoui started playing soccer in 1990 at USM Dra Ben Khedda’s sports school in Algeria. As a 20-year-old he was brought into the first team and stayed with his training club for two more seasons before the top Algerian club JS Kabylie discovered him and signed him in 1999. The talented goalkeeper stayed with JS Kabylie for eight long years, won two Algerian champions and won the CAF Cup three times in 2000, 2001 and 2002 . From July 2014 to the end of the 2014/15 season, Gaouaoui ended his career with third division club MSP Batna .
In 2001, Lounès Gaouaoui played for the Algerian national football team for the first time , but lost 1-0 to Senegal on his debut. Since his debut he has been a regular goalkeeper in the national team, but missed the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola due to an appendicitis .
