The talented goalkeeper stayed with JS Kabylie for eight long years, won two Algerian champions and won the CAF Cup three times in 2000, 2001 and 2002 . In 2007 Gaouaoui moved to WA Tlemcen , then moved on to USM Annaba and finally to ASO Chlef . From July 2014 to the end of the 2014/15 season, Gaouaoui ended his career with third division club MSP Batna .

In 2001, Lounès Gaouaoui played for the Algerian national football team for the first time , but lost 1-0 to Senegal on his debut.
