Association Sportive Olympique de Chlef or ASO Chlef for short ( Arabic جمعية أولمبي الشلف) is a football club from Ech Cheliff in Algeria . The club plays its home games at the Stade Mohamed Boumezrag .

history

The club was founded on June 13, 1947 , then under the name Association Sportive d'Orléansville (Orléansville was the name of the French outpost). After the club from the town of Ech Cheliff failed to appear due to sporting successes and titles, the Algerian Football Cup won its first ever title on June 21, 2005. In the final, USM Setif was defeated 1-0 by a goal from Mohamed Messaoud in stoppage time. By winning the cup, ASO Chlef was allowed to take part in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time . In the first round, the Mauritanian Association withdrew the ASC Entente and the Algerians reached the second round. There they were eliminated against the Senegalese club AS Douanes Dakar . In the 2007/08 season, the ASO Chlef was runner-up, behind the record champion JS Kabylie . With the second place in the table, the club took part in the highest African competition for club teams, the CAF Champions League . After they threw the Malian champions 3-1 out of the tournament in the two legs, the club failed in the second round against the Tunisian club Étoile Sportive du Sahel .

On June 21, 2011, the then coach Meziane Ighil managed to win the first title in Ligue Professionnelle 1 and relegated the JSM Béjaïa and the CR Belouizdad to second and third place. On May 12, 2012, ASO Chlef defeated the Sudanese club al-Hilal Khartoum 4-2 on penalties in the second round of the CAF Champions League 2012 , making it into the group stage for the first time in the club's history.
