Azzedine Doukha ( Arabic عز الدين دوخة, DMG ʿIzz ad-Dīn Dūḫa ; * August 5, 1986 in Chettia ) is an Algerian soccer player who plays in the position of goalkeeper at NA Hussein Dey and has been a member of the Algerian national team since 2011.

Athletic career

Club career

Azzedine Doukha was born in the small Algerian town of Chettia near Chlef and comes from the youth department of ASO Chlef , where he was a substitute goalkeeper between the ages of 18 and 20. After he did not get beyond this role, he moved to the second division to JSM Tiaret , where he was awarded to MO Béjaia shortly afterwards . There he was able to establish himself as a regular goalkeeper for the first time, which is why he tied himself firmly to the club in the summer of 2007. After two positions in the second-highest division Algeria, he was committed in 2008 by the capital club MC Algiers , where he again only acted as a substitute for a year and a half.

In August 2009, Portuguese scouts became aware of the 23-year-old's talent. Shortly afterwards he entered into negotiations with the Portuguese first division club Vitória Setúbal , which did not result in a transfer. However, Doukha stayed in Portugal for a few months and took part in individual training programs.

In January 2010 he joined the city rival USM El Harrach , where he had a contract until July 2014. With the club he was able to celebrate the entry into the final of the Algerian Cup in the 2010/11 season, in which they had to admit defeat against JS Kabylie . After he was named captain of the team in the summer of 2012, he made a significant contribution to winning the runner-up championship of his club in the 2012/13 season with eleven clean sheets.

Instead, Doukha signed a 2-year contract with the Algerian record champions JS Kabylie in May 2014 .

After two years in Kabylia, he returned to the capital Algiers in July 2016 and signed a two-year contract with NA Hussein Dey .

On June 29, 2017, after just over a year, Doukha's contract was terminated by mutual agreement and his move to Saudi Arabia to join the top division there, Ohod Al-Medina, was announced.

Between 2004 and 2017, he played 184 first division games in Algeria.

National team

In May 2011 he was appointed to the Algerian national team for the first time as part of a qualifier for the 2012 Africa Cup against Morocco . Shortly afterwards he was promoted to permanent representative of the then regular goalkeeper Raïs M'Bolhi . He played his first international game on November 12, 2011 in a friendly against Tunisia , when he came on as a substitute in the second half and without conceding a goal. He was part of the squad for the African Cup of Nations 2013 , where he was not used. In May 2014 he was appointed to the provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup , but was ultimately not appointed to the final squad.

After he was back in the permanent squad of the national team from October 2014, he played his first compulsory international match in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mali on November 19 of the same year . As a result, he was appointed to the final squad of the Fennecs for the Africa Cup in 2015 , in which he, however, had to admit defeat to his rival Raïs M'Bolhi and acted as a substitute goalkeeper.

Due to the lack of match practice M'Bolhi in the club, Doukha's role changed in March 2015, when the former was not nominated and Doukha was allowed to play the two friendlies against Qatar and Oman . After another non-nomination by M'Bolhi in June 2015, Doukha was provisionally declared “number one” in the Algerian goal by national coach Christian Gourcuff . However, he lost this status again in November 2015 and was appointed to the national team for the last time in March 2016. Doukha was subsequently no longer considered by Gourcuff's successors.

It was only in September 2018 that Doukha was nominated again for the national team under Djamel Belmadi and once again achieved the status of M'Bolhi’s deputy. With the national team, Doukha won the Africa Cup in 2019 , although he was not used.
