CAF Champions League 2012
The CAF Champions League 2012 is the 16th edition of this tournament organized by the CAF . It started on February 17, 2012 with the preliminary round. The defending champion was Espérance Sportive de Tunis from Tunisia . qualification
In theory, all 55 CAF member associations are entitled to send teams. Two starting places are automatically reserved for the twelve best national associations in the CAF five-year ranking. For qualification for the Champions League 2012, the rating for the years 2006 to 2010 applies. Thus, the number of football associations belonging to the CAF means that a maximum of 67 teams could participate in the Champions League.
Two teams from the following countries are entitled to start, in the order of the five-year rating:
- Tunisia
- Egypt
- Democratic Republic of Congo
- Nigeria
- Sudan
- Algeria
- Morocco
- Mali
- Zimbabwe
- Libya
- Cameroon
- Ivory Coast
All other countries have a starting place.
