Yazid Mansouri ( Arabic يزيد منصوري, DMG Yazīd Manṣūrī ; * February 25, 1978 in Revin ) is a former Algerian soccer player and current soccer official. The French- born defensive midfielder was the regular captain of the Algerian national team between June 2005 and June 2010 .
Athletic career
Mansouri, whose parents came from Larbaâ Nath Ouacif, ten kilometers southeast of Tizi Ouzou in the Kabylia region , grew up in the French Reims Métropole - located in the Champagne-Ardenne - and played football for a low-class club there in his youth Name Tinqueux SC. At the age of 17 he joined AC Le Havre , whose youth work enjoyed a good reputation in France (among the club's renowned "graduates" were Ibrahim Ba , Lassana Diarra , Florent Sinama-Pongolle , Vikash Dhorasoo , Guillaume Hoarau , Anthony Le Tallec and Steve Mandanda quite a few “with a migration background”). With a mostly unspectacular style of play, which primarily focuses on capturing the ball in the center, the defensive midfielder played for two years in the reserve team of "Le HAC" before the right footed on the first day of the 1997/98 season as a substitute in the second half Olympique Marseille made his Ligue 1 debut .
At the latest in the 1999/2000 season Mansouri conquered a regular place in Le Havre, which he expanded to a leadership role in two years after the disappointing relegation in the same year in two years of being second class until 2002. When after returning to the top division immediately afterwards with the renewed relegation a further setback followed, the club loaned him to the English second division Coventry City for the 2003/04 season . There he completed 14 league appearances before the end of the year before a dispute broke out because Mansouri insisted on participating in the 2004 African Cup of Nations in January and February . The leadership of Coventry City then immediately dissolved the contract and Mansouri remained de facto without a club until the end of the season.
With the French second division club LB Châteauroux , a new employer was quickly found in the summer of 2004 and in two years he was not only in the starting lineup of “La Berri” 63 times in league games, but was also team captain in the 2005/06 season. Other highlights included his first two UEFA Cup appearances against Club Brugge , for which the club qualified as a French Cup finalist in 2004 . Mansouri moved at the beginning of the 2006/07 season again to Ligue 1 for newly promoted FC Lorient , after previously fierce speculation about a transfer to Bulgaria.
From then on, he played in Brittany with his Algerian national team-mate Rafik Saïfi . With 92 league appearances in three years, he immediately developed into a "long-runner" and helped the team to solid midfield positions. After Saïfi's departure to Qatar in 2009, Mansouri's time was also drawing to a close. The 2009/10 season, which he described as the last in the southern Breton port city, was marked by rumors of change. A planned move to the Spanish House of Lords to Deportivo La Coruña had failed in the summer of 2009 as was a possible transfer to Burnley FC in the English Premier League in winter . In Lorient, he did not last beyond the status of a supplementary player.
From July 2010 he played for the Qatari club Al-Sailiya .
In January 2012 he moved to the Algerian club CS Constantine . After he was no longer used towards the end of the first half of the 2012/13 season, his contract was terminated a year later, on January 1, 2013. Shortly afterwards he announced the end of his career.
In mid-October 2013, Mansouri announced that, in addition to his work for the Algerian Football Association, he would run for the French amateur club RC Épernay Champagne until the end of the season .
Algerian national team
At a young age, the then coach and "Algeria's national hero" Rabah Madjer Mansouris mentor and after friendly matches against FC Zurich and ES Troyes AC in 1999, Madjer let him play for the first time in an official international match on October 6, 2001 against France in the Paris Prinzenparkstadion of the Algerian national team . This was followed by participation in the African Championship in 2002 and 2004 , which ended early in the preliminary round and in the quarter-finals. With his steady and calm style of play, however, he developed leadership qualities that, after two “short promotions” in June 2004, finally made him the captain of the “Desert Foxes” one year later. With his calm temperament, he led the Algerian selection, which was at times “too hot-blooded” , to the country’s greatest sporting successes in the recent past with the semi-finals in the “ Africa Cup ” and the first qualification for a world championship in 24 years. In shape, Mansouri did not get a chance at the World Cup finals in South Africa and after the tournament he announced his retirement from the national team.
After the active career
Between February 2013 and March 2017, Mansouri worked in various positions at the Algerian Football Association . From February 2013 to July 2014 initially as a sports coordinator and board member of the association. After Mansouri's engagement as sports coordinator for the Algerian national teams ended in July 2014, it was announced shortly after that that he would assist the new national coach Christian Gourcuff as assistant coach. He will also take over the position of team manager until the end of July 2018. After the team left the Africa Cup 2017 early , Mansouri and head coach Georges Leekens , as well as all other assistant coaches, were sacked. In the elections for the Executive Committee of the Football Association in March 2017, Mansouri was not re-elected as a result.
