qualification
The team qualified via the CONCACAF qualifying games for the World Cup in South Africa .
Due to a bye for the first round, the team only took part from the second qualifying round, where it clearly prevailed with an 8-0 and 1-0 home and away match against Barbados .
In the third round, the team under national coach Bob Bradley met Trinidad and Tobago , Guatemala and Cuba . Here, too, with five wins and one defeat from six games, the first place in the group was clearly occupied and the USA reached the fourth qualifying round.
The US national team was again the group winner in the fourth qualifying round, where Mexico , Honduras , Costa Rica , El Salvador and the opponent from the previous round Trinidad and Tobago waited as opponents .

National coach Bob Bradley announced his final World Cup squad on May 26th, removing Alejandro Bedoya (Örebro SK), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Eddie Johnson (Aris Thessaloniki), Sacha Klještan (CD Chivas ) from the provisional 30-player squad USA), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Heath Pearce (FC Dallas) and Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew).

In the preliminary round of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, the US team met in Group C on England , Algeria and Slovenia . After wresting a draw from the English in the first game and also equalizing a 2-0 deficit against Slovenia, they secured progress with a 1-0 last minute against Algeria. Thanks to the more goals scored, they were even ahead of group favorites England in the table.
