Chad Marshall (born August 22, 1984 in Riverside , California ) is a retired American football player .

Youth and college

Marshall played soccer at Rubidoux High School in Riverside. He was on the NCSAA All-American selection and was named Best Defender in his senior year of high school. Upon graduation, he was named one of the best youth players in the United States by Soccer America Magazine.

He continued his career at the IMG Soccer Academy. In 2002 he moved to Stanford University and played for the college selection there. After two seasons in college, he decided to continue playing football as a professional.

Columbus crew

Chad Marshall was drafted second in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. The Columbus crew was awarded the contract . In his first season he played a total of 27 times for the crew and got second place in the selection for the best young player of the season. In 2007 he only played 12 times due to an injury.

2008 was his strongest season so far. He managed to win the MLS Cup 2008 with the team , where he scored the decisive goal in the final game. After the season he was nominated for the best team in 2008 and was named the best defender of the season. This was awarded to him again at the end of the 2009 season. He was also back in the eleven of the year.

After completing a trial training session at 1. FSV Mainz 05 in December 2008 , he extended his contract with the crew, which expired at the end of 2008, on December 26, 2008.

Between 2014 and 2019 he played for Seattle Sounders FC .

National team

Marshall has played in all US youth selections since the U-17. He took part in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship .

His first international match for the national team was on March 9, 2005 against Colombia. In this game he was also able to achieve his first international goal. In 2009 he was in the squad for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2009 .

On May 11, 2010, Marshall was nominated for the provisional squad for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa.
