Career

Club career

MetroStars

In 2004 he was transferred through the MLS Draft System in Major League Soccer to the MetroStars from New York , where his father Bob Bradley was a coach. After a difficult first season with some injuries, he made his breakthrough in the second season. In total, Bradley played 30 times for MetroStars, with the midfielder scoring a goal.

SC Heerenveen

In January 2006 Bradley moved to Europe for the Dutch first division club SC Heerenveen and signed a contract there until July 2009. At that time he was the youngest MLS player who ever got a professional contract with a European team. On April 16, 2006 he came against AZ Alkmaar for his first league game for the Dutch, which should remain his only one in the current season. After the 2006/07 season he took over from Paul Bosvelt in the central midfield. In the 2007/08 season he was then used in 33 of 34 games and scored 15 goals. This made the midfielder the most successful goalscorer in sc Heerenveen this season.

Borussia Monchengladbach

On August 31, 2008, Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach signed Michael Bradley and provided him with a four-year contract.

On the 5th day of the 2008/09 season Bradley made his Bundesliga debut for Borussia against Hertha BSC . On matchday 13, Bradley headed to the 2-2 final against Bayern Munich . It was the first goal he scored for Borussia.

Bradley was loaned to Aston Villa from February 2011 until the end of the 2010/11 season, but they did not take advantage of a purchase option.

Change to Serie A

At the end of August 2011, Bradley moved to the Italian first division club Chievo Verona . He left the club after just one season to sign a four-year contract with league rivals AS Roma . About 3.75 million euros was paid.

Bradley made his league debut on August 25, 2012 in a 2-2 draw against Catania Calcio ; he prepared the goal for the 2-2 final score in the 90th minute. On October 7, 2012, after a month-long injury break, he scored his first goal for the Giallorossi in a 2-0 win over Atalanta Bergamo .

Toronto FC

During the winter break of the 2013/14 season, he moved to the MLS for Toronto FC .

He also took part with the USA in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

After he was previously in the United States' provisional 30-man squad for the 2010 World Cup , Bradley was elected to the final 23-man squad of the United States on May 26, 2010 by his father and national coach Bob Bradley and accepted of the World Cup in South Africa . There he scored the equalizer in the group game against Slovenia to make it 2-2. This was ultimately decisive to move into the last sixteen. There, however, the Americans lost to Ghana 2-1 after extra time. At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , the USA played the group matches with Germany , Portugal and Ghana and were runner-up in the group again in the round of 16, where they lost 2-1 to Belgium after extra time.
