Ashtone Wayne Henry Morgan (born February 9, 1991 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian football player .

The defender has been playing for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer since 2011 . He is the first football player to come from his own youth and become a national player.

Career

youth

Morgan attended Northern Secondary School in Toronto and played for the Toronto Lynx U-13 team, a team that plays in the USL Premier Development League . With the youth team, he visited England several times to play against other youth teams.

At the age of 16 he moved to the TFC Academy, the youth and development program of Toronto FC. Here he played with the Academy team in the Canadian Soccer League .

Toronto FC

From the TFC Academy, he moved to the first team of Toronto FC on March 17, 2011. Before that, he was already on the pitch in a CONCACAF Champions League game and attended a training camp with the first team in early January 2015. He made his MLS debut on March 26, 2011 in the game against the Portland Timbers . In the closing stages of the 2011 season, Morgan was able to establish itself more and more as a regular. 2012 was firmly established on the left back of the team. In total, he was on the field 44 times in all competitions.

Toronto signed Justin Morrow for the 2014 season , so Morgan was used less and less. In 2013 he played 22 major league soccer games, but only 3 times in 2014.

In early 2015, Toronto FC II was loaned out to collect match practice in the reserve team. He played his first game in the United Soccer League on March 21, 2015. Due to injuries in the first team, Morgan was then ordered back. On May 2, he played his 100th game, cross-competition, for Toronto FC. He is the first player in the history of the franchise to achieve this.

National team

Internationally, he was used in the Canadian U-16 team in 2007 and in the U-20 team in 2010. In autumn 2010 he played for the first time in the Canadian national team in two FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Seint Luca and Puerto Rico. In June 2013 he was appointed to the Canadian team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2013 . Two years later he was also in the squad for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup .
