Clarence Goodson (born May 17, 1982 in Alexandria , Virginia ) is an American football player . The defender plays for the San José Earthquakes and the US national soccer team .

Career

Youth and college

Goodson attended Annandale High School in Annandale, Virginia and Wilbert Tucker Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia . During his time at Annandale, he was named the school's main player. He also achieved a new record of goals and points during his sophomore year in 1998. With the school team at WT Woodson High School, he won the Virginia State High School Soccer title in 2000. Besides school, he played with the Braddock Road Warhawks and won the 1999 National Under-17 Championship.

In 2000 he moved to the University of Maryland after graduating from high school . During his three years with the Maryland Terrapins, the university's soccer team, he played 66 games and scored 10 goals.

FC Dallas

After college he signed a Project 40 contract with Major League Soccer and was able to take part in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. He was drafted by Dallas Burn. In his first year he played a total of 247 minutes in five games. In the 2005 season, Dallas Burn had already been renamed FC Dallas, he became a regular within the team. By the end of his time in Dallas, Goodson had completed 76 games in which he scored three goals. On November 21, 2007, he was selected by the San José Earthquakes in their MLS Expansion Draft. Goodson then declared that he no longer wanted to enter into a new contract with the MLS.

Scandinavia

So he moved to Europe at the beginning of 2008 to the Norwegian second division club IK Start , with whom he made promotion to the Norwegian first division in his first season . He convinced the Norwegians with a good performance and was voted one of the best Americans in the Eurasian region. He scored 10 goals in 69 games.

From January 1, 2011 Goodson played for the Danish first division club Brøndby IF . He was given a three-year contract there. He made his debut for the team from the Copenhagen suburb of Brondby on March 6, 2011, and scored his first goal six match days later. Overall, it brought Goodson for Brøndby to 60 league games in which he could score six goals.

Return to the USA

For the 2013 season , Goodson returned to Major League Soccer. He signed a contract with the San José Earthquakes , who had the rights to him due to the draft in 2007 when Goodson returned to the American professional league.

National team

His first of 46 international matches for the US national soccer team completed Goodson on January 19, 2009 in a friendly against Sweden . His first tournament with the national team was the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2009 . In the semifinals against Honduras he scored 1-0 in a 2-0 win. This was also the first of his five international goals to date.

Goodson was nominated for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa , but was not used.

In 2011 and 2013 he again took part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup . After losing two finals, Goodson won the competition with the national team in 2013.
