US team games

Preliminary round

In the first game, the favored Portuguese were beaten 3-2. After a somewhat lucky 3-0 lead, the victory was saved just over time. In the third game there was a straight defeat against the already eliminated Poland. The Polish team, which had previously been clearly beaten 4-0 by Portugal, played like unleashed and almost prevented the round of 16, which was believed to be safe. But since South Korea beat Portugal, it was enough for the USA to take second place.

United States - Portugal 3: 2
South Korea - United States 1: 1
Poland - United States 3: 1

Finals

The opponent in the round of 16 was Mexico, of all places. Somewhat surprisingly, the USA prevailed 2-0 in this prestigious duel.

The final destination was the quarter-finals. Although the Americans were far superior in the field and had better chances to score, Germany won 1-0. Oliver Kahn was once again the guarantee for the narrow victory .

Mexico - United States 0: 2
Germany - United States 1-0
