Cobi N'Gai Jones (born June 16, 1970 in Detroit ) is a retired American football player .
He currently works as a commentator for the Los Angeles Galaxy Games for Time Warner Cable SportsNet. He can thus be seen on the channels Fox Sports, BeIN Sports and Pac-12 Network.
Career
player
Jones began his career on the team at the University of California, Los Angeles . In October and November 1992 he trained with 1. FC Köln on a trial basis , but received no contract there. In 1994 he signed a one-year contract with Coventry City in the English Premier League , and made his debut there on September 16 in the game against Leeds United . In that game, he set up a goal and was awarded a penalty, which Coventry won the game 2-1. Cobi Jones scored his first professional goal in November 1994 against Norwich. In one year he managed to score 9 goals in 28 games in England.
In 1995 Jones moved to CR Vasco da Gama in the first Brazilian league, but returned after six months to the USA, where Major League Soccer was just being founded. He signed a contract with Los Angeles Galaxy , where he played until his retirement in 2007.
Trainer
On November 9, 2007, he became an assistant coach at Los Angeles Galaxy under Ruud Gullit . When he had to leave on August 11, 2008, Jones took over the management of the team as interim coach. On August 18, he resumed his position as assistant coach, alongside the new head coach Bruce Arena .
In January 2011, he left Galaxy and became associate director of soccer at New York Cosmos . He stayed there for a season.

The midfielder is the record national player in the USA with 164 appearances . With the USA he took part in three world championships: 1994 in the USA , 1998 in France and 2002 in Japan and South Korea , as well as in the 1992 Olympic Games.
He also has the most appearances for Los Angeles Galaxy: He played 305 games for the club from 1996 to 2007. Cobi Jones was the last player in Major League Soccer to have been continuously active with the same club since the league was founded in 1996.
In 1996 and 2002 he won Major League Soccer with Los Angeles Galaxy .
Private
- On September 12, 2009, he married his longtime girlfriend, Kim Reese. The couple wed at the Park Hyatt Resort Aviara in Carlsbad, California .
- On March 11, 2011, Jones was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
