Joshua David "Josh" Wolff (born February 25, 1977 in Stone Mountain , Georgia ) is a former American football player and current coach .

The striker played for the US national team from 1999 to 2008 and spent most of his career playing with teams in Major League Soccer . From 2006 to 2008 he played at TSV 1860 Munich , which was his only foreign station.

Career as a player

Wolff made his paid football debut with the Chicago Fire in 1998 after serving two years on the University of South Carolina team . He scored eight goals in 14 games in his first season, the most for a rookie to date . In the total of five years in Chicago he was able to score 32 goals despite many injuries and thus recommend himself for Team USA. For cost reasons, Josh Wolff was sold to the Wizards from Kansas City for the 2003 season, where he was active until the end of the 2006 season. On December 6, 2006 he signed a contract with the second division TSV 1860 Munich until the summer of 2008. In one and a half years with the “Löwen” he scored only 2 goals in 42 appearances. His contract was not renewed. He then returned to his previous club in Kansas City. From 2011 to 2012 he played for DC United .

Josh Wolff made his debut for the United States national team on September 8, 1999 against Mexico , so far he has (as of September 2007) completed 48 senior internationals and scored eight goals. He played for the United States at both the 2002 World Cup and the 2000 Olympic Games . It was used once at the 2006 World Cup .

Career as a coach

Wolff worked after his retirement in the 2013 season as an assistant coach for his former team DC United in Major League Soccer . From the 2014 season to the end of the 2018 season, worked as an assistant trainer for the Columbus Crew . He then became an assistant coach under Gregg Berhalter at the national soccer team of the United States .

For the 2021 season , Wolff will become the first head coach of the new MLS franchise Austin FC . For this he gave up the position of assistant coach for the US national team at the end of 2019.
