Soccer World Cup 2010 / Nigeria
qualification
The team qualified through the qualifying games of the African Football Association CAF for the World Cup in South Africa .
For the second qualifying round, Nigeria met the hosts and fixed qualifiers South Africa , Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea in Group 4 and reached the third qualifying round with six wins from as many games.
There the Nigerian national team played in Group 2 against Tunisia , Mozambique and Kenya and qualified as group winners again for the World Cup finals.

Nigerian contingent
National coach Lars Lagerbäck , who only took over the coaching post in February 2010, initially announced a 44-player list of potential World Cup participants who had been invited to a training camp in Great Britain. From this list Greg Etafia , Olubayo Adefemi , Michael Odibe , Sam Sodje , Femi Ajilore , Joseph Akpala , Michael Eneramo , Seyi Olofinjana , Onyekachi Okonkwo , Sone Aluko , Gabriel Reuben , Ahmed Musa , Solomon Okpako and Bartholomew Ibenegbu did not make it into the previous one , 30-player line-up. From this 30-strong squad, Lagerbäck finally deleted Bassey Akpan ( Bayelsa United ), Peter Suswam ( Lobi Stars ), Onyekachi Apam ( OGC Nice ), Ikechukwu Uche ( Real Saragossa ), Victor Anichebe ( FC Everton ), Ideye Brown ( FC Sochaux ) and Peter Utaka ( Odense BK ) to reach the FIFA squad size of 23 players. After the injury-related cancellation of John Obi Mikel ( Chelsea FC ), Ideye Brown was nominated.

In the preliminary round of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, the Nigerian national football team met in Group B on Argentina , South Korea and Greece . After two defeats and one draw, Nigeria was eliminated from the tournament as bottom of the group.
