Austin Ejide (actually Augustine Amamchukwu Ejide , born April 8, 1984 in Onitsha ) is a Nigerian soccer goalkeeper . His name Amamchukwu means “ Do I know God's wish? ".

Career

society

Ejide began playing football at the small Nigerian club Gabros International before spending four years in Tunisia with Étoile Sportive du Sahel , where he reached the final of the African Champions League in 2004 and 2005, respectively. In 2006 he moved to the French second division club SC Bastia . There he was initially used regularly. After the commitment of Magno Novaes in 2008, Ejide could not prevail against this. He then moved to the Israeli club Hapoel Petach Tikwa in 2009 . There he played for three years until his club had to file for bankruptcy during the 2011/12 season and then relegated. Ejide joined league rival Hapoel Be'er Scheva , for whom he was also in goal for three years. In the summer of 2015, his contract was not renewed. He was without a club for two years before joining Hapoel Hadera in the second Israeli division, Liga Leumit , in the summer of 2017 .

National team

Since 2002 he has played in the Nigerian national team . He took part in the Soccer World Cup in 2002 , but remained without use. At the Africa Cup of 2008 , Ejide was a regular goalkeeper. It was the first major tournament since the 2002 World Cup in which Vincent Enyeama was not number one in Nigeria. The coach at the time, Berti Vogts , preferred Ejide because he was bigger and more robust than Enyeama. That should pay off, especially in the group stage, when the Super Eagles only conceded a single goal from Ivory Coast in three games. In the quarter-finals against the host team from Ghana , however, it was over, Vogts resigned shortly afterwards and Enyeama was again first choice. In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup , Ejide only played one game in a 1-1 draw against Rwanda and he was also not used in the World Cup finals.
