Hapoel Petach Tikwa (also Hapoel Petah-Tikva ) is an Israeli football club founded in 1934 . The club based in Petach Tikwa came from the Israeli labor movement (→  Histadrut ). The word Hapoel means [the] worker .

history

Hapoel Petach Tikwa has often been a dominant force in the Ligat ha'Al , the first Israeli league , in the past . For the first time, the club was relegated from the first division in 1976, but returned in 1978. 1982 was followed by a further decline for two years. After the 2006/07 season, the team again finished last in the table and rose to the second division. After the direct resurgence in 2008, the team was able to hold in the 2008/09 season as tenth in the top division, but rose again in 2012.

Schmuel Rosenthal , who played for Hapoel Petach Tikwa from 1965 to 1972 and 1973 to 1976, became the first Israeli football player to be signed by a professional European club in 1972 when he joined Borussia Mönchengladbach .
