Vincent Enyeama (born August 29, 1982 in Kaduna ) is a Nigerian football goalkeeper who was most recently under contract at OSC Lille .

Career

society

Enyeama started his career with the Ibom Stars. In early 2001, he moved to FC Enyimba . In 2001, 2002 and 2003 the goalkeeper was able to celebrate the championship title in Nigeria with the club. He was also able to win the CAF Champions League in 2003 with a win in the final against Ismaily SC from Egypt . This success was repeated in 2004, and in 2004 the African Supercup was won. After these great successes, Enyeama moved to Heartland FC in 2005 , but left at the end of the season.

Now Enyeama went to Israel to Bne Jehuda Tel Aviv . In the first season they finished fourth in the league, furthermore the cup final was reached, where they failed at Hapoel Tel Aviv . After finishing ninth in 2006/07, he moved to Hapoel Tel Aviv. In the championship Enyeama was only disappointing seventh with the club, but the cup final could again be reached. This time they failed because of Beitar Jerusalem . In 2008/09 they became runner-up and played in the Europa League , where they surprisingly qualified for the final of the 32 best. At the end of 2009, Enyeama was named Israel's Footballer of the Year and with his team he was Israeli champion 2010.

At the beginning of July 2011, Enyeama moved from Hapoel to the French champions OSC Lille . He signed a four-year contract. In Lille he could not prevail against Mickaël Landreau and Steeve Elana for the time being , so that he was awarded to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 2012/13 season . After his return to the northern French in the summer of 2013, however, he played the first 17 point games from the first to the last minute and proved to be a great support of the Dogues , kept a "clean slate" in 14 games, only had to accept five goals and remained unbeaten for 1062 minutes in a row. Gaëtan Huard's 20-year-old French league record of 1176 minutes without conceding a goal did not surpass Enyeama.

National team

Without having previously played an international match, Enyeama was appointed to the Nigerian squad for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea . There he made his debut in the third round match against the English national football team - after defeats against Sweden and Argentina , however, Nigeria had already been eliminated at this point. With a strong performance, Enyeama made a decisive contribution to a goalless draw against England. A little later, the national team's goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu , resigned and Enyeama became his successor.

In 2004 in Tunisia , 2006 in Egypt and 2010 in Angola , he took part in the African championships as the goalkeeper of the national team. In all three finals he came to six appearances and in all three finals the team was third. At the Africa Cup of Nations 2008 in Ghana , Enyeama was a substitute goalkeeper in the Super Eagles ' squad , as coach Berti Vogts preferred the physically superior Austin Ejide .

Enyeama also took part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . This time he was in goal in all 3 preliminary round matches of his team. After a world class performance against Argentina and a game against Greece that was still strong despite a mistake , he made an unexpected number of mistakes in the last group game against South Korea and was thus directly involved in the early retirement of his team.

Enyeama's next big tournament was the 2013 African Cup of Nations after Nigeria failed to qualify for Guinea in 2012 . In 2013, Nigeria won the tournament with Enyeama as the goalkeeper.

He was also a regular goalkeeper at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and was used in all four games, but was eliminated in the round of 16 against France.

On March 25, 2015, he made his 100th international match as the second Nigerian .
